B cells are a type of white blood cell that is covered with very many receptors that can recognise foreign proteins. When these receptors recognise an invading organism, the B cell releases these receptors in a soluble form known as antibodies. All the receptors on any one B cell are identical to eachother and so each B cell is specific to one protein.
